Universal Wearing Vidhi
Applies to any Rudraksha. Mukhi-specific mantra and day are listed below.
Preparation
- Use a new, unworn, undamaged Rudraksha. If strung in a mala, check thread runs face-to-face and tail-to-tail.
- Clean the puja area and place an image or idol of Lord Shiva (or a Shivling) with fresh flowers.
- Choose red or yellow silk thread, or a gold/silver/copper chain, to string or hold the bead.
Purification (Shuddhikaran)
- Wash or sprinkle the Rudraksha with Gangajal or clean water.
- For fuller Abhishek, bathe in panchamrit (milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar) or panchgavya, then rinse with plain or Ganga water.
- Apply a little sandalwood (chandan) paste to the bead.
Energizing (Prana Pratishtha)
- Light a diya and incense; offer white or fresh flowers.
- Begin with a short prayer to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.
- Touch the Rudraksha to a Shivling or image of Lord Shiva and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” at least 11 times (108 for a fuller ritual).
- Chant the beej mantra specific to that mukhi for the suggested rounds.
- Optionally recite the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 5 times for protection and blessing.
Wearing
- Wear after energizing, ideally at the muhurat suggested for that mukhi.
- Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” once more at the moment of wearing.
- Perform a brief arati and offer gratitude before beginning your day.

This guide reflects traditional and astrological beliefs about Rudraksha as commonly described across Vedic/Hindu sources; it is not a medical or scientific claim. Beej mantras and deity associations for rarer mukhis (15–24) vary between sources. Authenticate rare beads and, where possible, have the puja vidhi guided by a qualified acharya.
